Twin Peaks Location – Flying Over New York City

Nighttime aerial view of New York City

Early in Twin Peaks Part 1 on Showtime, a 21 second aerial view of the New York City skyline is shown. The key to identifying the footage used for this clip was found when I located the footage used for Diane Evans’ apartment.

WHERE IS THE FLYING OVER NEW YORK CITY IN TWIN PEAKS FROM?

Once I realized the production crew used stock footage in the series, I realized the nighttime footage was stock. I turned again to Getty Images and searched for “Aerial view of New York City at Night.” I scanned through the results until I found footage that matched.

I shared the news on Twitter on July 10, the day after finding Diane Evans’ apartment exterior footage.

The first clip used (found here) is titled, “establishing shot of illuminated city at night. aerail view of manhattan midtown.”

At about 11-seconds into the establishing shot, the nighttime scene fades to a different shot. I also found this clip on Getty Images almost immediately after finding the first part.

This Getty Images video (found here) is titled, “city business buildings district. modern high rise metropolis skyline cityscape”

Both royalty-free clips were shot by focusimage.

This establishing shot ends with a zoom into an almost window-less brick building that houses the Experiment. I’m still on a quest to find that building but I’m beginning to think it may be computer generated and not an actual building.
