If Twin Peaks action figures ever become a thing, I hope Annie Blackburn’s figure is packaged with a coffee decanter. Why? She holds it ALL THE TIME at the Double R Diner.
Annie arrives in Twin Peaks starting with Episode 2017. Shortly after arriving, her sister Norma put her to work as a waitress. We first see Annie with her coffee decanter greeting Dale Cooper, local law enforcement, who is reading a book about Tibet while the “Spring Formal” painting looms in the background.
Annie asks Cooper, “Would you like something to drink?”
Cooper responds, “Yes, I’d like, uh, a cup of deep, black joe, please.”
“Coming right up,” Annie replies.
Annie warns Cooper that she “made it a little strong,” but that doesn’t deter him. In fact, she “made it just right.”
Annie returns with her coffee decanter in Episode 2018. After identifying a chickadee on a Dodge Dart, she asks Cooper if he wants a “cup of deep, black joe.”
No surprise, he does. And Annie pours offering a better look at her coffee decanter. At this point, it’s time to identify this prop which Annie can’t let go.
The decanter appears to be a Bunn Easy Pour Commercial Decanter from 1988/92. I found an eBay auction for a similar decanter that was sold in 2016. Bunn still makes coffee decanters today, but they no longer have the company’s name in script form on the side.
After being pulled away for a moment and interrupting Cooper’s joke, she tops off his cup with another pour.
Annie is seen passing by Bobby and Shelly holding her Bunn coffee decanter in Episode 2019. She’s also sporting a familiar looking sweater. Wait a second, is that Donna Hayward’s sweater from the picnic video?
Why yes, it IS Donna’s sweater! Perhaps there was a sale at Horne’s Department Store, or maybe Donna didn’t mind Annie “touching her stuff” unlike Laura. By the way, Hot Topic released a replica cardigan sweater last year in case you wanted to pick one up.
You can get a better look at Annie sporting Donna’s sweater when she speaks with Agent Dale Cooper later in Episode 2019.
Annie is seen one final time at the Double R Diner with her Bunn decanter in Episode 2020.
To be fair, she wasn’t always holding the decanter. The imaginary Annie Blackburn action figure could also come with a pink box of “Donuts Donuts” and four cups of coffee, or a squeezable ketchup bottle.
